Hospital Fitout Group was engaged to deliver an expansion of the Emergency Department (ED) at Canterbury Hospital. This project required a smooth integration with current features and appearance. The ED was operational throughout the project, so works were completed without intruding on the regular functions of the busy ward.

The project was completed on time and in budget, and each sign-off point met client deadlines.

Unique aspects of the project included:

  • Structural walls on the perimeter of the bearing including load-bearing walls
  • More than 20 types of walls required including a lead-lined R/F room for X-Ray imaging
  • Structural steel columns in the ED room were fire protected to meet stringent Building Code of Australia (BCA) certification. Promat cladding was used to fire protect the columns and ensure that load-bearing supports are enabled to remain structurally sound in an emergency for a minimum of 2 hours of full fire exposure
  • Feature panels were affixed to the outer walls, using a decorative cladding developed to client design specifications
